Among her teachers were Fernando Lizundia, one of the first dancers of Liceo de Barcelona, and Anna Ortiz, an internationally recognised dancer and choreographer. Moreover, Mares has studied Contemporary, Jazz and Hip-Hop. Furthermore, she is federated into the European Pilates Federation.
Mares initially studied traditional Belly Dance and then discovered Tribal Fusion through Aisha, her mentor, with whom she became a Tribal Fusion teacher. Her choreographic creativity is distinguished through her dance. Her work is the result of the fusion of all the knowledge acquired for more than fifteen years. With ten years of experience as an educator, her students highlight her strength, expressiveness and fineness. Undoubtedly, her exigency and passion in all her work as well as her love for dance and her tribe are reflected in each show. Her tribe is much more than a dance group. They are a family with a common passion, love and respect for dance.
Some of Mare’s classes are structured on the Suhaila Salimpour format and class composition including warm-up, technique, vocabulary, and nomenclature. Mares is Suhaila Level 1 & Jamila Level 1 certified.
Mares is currently leading and performing in the Zion Dance Company. She presently resides and teaches in Malta. She has created a dance company with her students in Malta called “Serpentamoras“. Nevertheless, she regularly travels to Spain in order to keep up with her Spanish students and persist her classes. Likewise, her students in Spain have a dance company called “Blue Shadows“. Moreover, she carries out Tarracofusion, an annual ATS® & Tribal Fusion festival, celebrated in Tarragona with the participation of several artists from different countries. The first edition was held on June 28, 2014 and since then it has been celebrated every year with the arrival of summer.
“The dancer of the future will be one whose body and soul have grown so harmoniously together that the natural language of the soul will have become the movement of the body. The dancer will not belong to a nation but to all humanity. She will dance not in the form of a nymph, nor fairy, nor coquette but in the form of a woman in its greatest and purest expression. She will realize the mission of woman’s body and the holiness of all its parts. She will dance the changing life of nature, showing how each part is transformed into one another. From all parts of her body shall shine radiant intelligence, bringing to the world the message of the thoughts and aspirations of thousands of women. She shall dance the freedom of women.
This is the mission of the dancer of the future…she is coming, the dancer of the future: the free spirit, who will inhabit the body of new women; more glorious than any woman that has yet been; more beautiful than … all women in past centuries: The highest intelligence in the freest body!”
